The Queen's Ashtray Ø 9 cm / cast porcelain with cut and handpainted decoration

"Modern Monarchy" is a ceramic analyzis of royalty today. In times when the princes and princesses of Scandinavia are marrying outside of nobility it seems interesting to investigate how someone or something actually becomes royal? The answer turned out not to be gold, ornaments or crowns - but storytelling. Therefor every piece tells its own story of the modern monarchy of Denmark.

The Crown Prince's Cup Ø 7 cm / cast porcelain with detachable golden chain
The Imperial Platter 12 x 20 cm / cast porcelain with polarbear and handpainted decoration
The King's Plate 20 x 30 cm / cast porcelain with handpainted tattoo decoration

Fredrik IX was King of Denmark 1947 - 1972. His down-to-earth mentality makes him a good symbol of the modern monarchy - decreasing the distance between royalty and common people. His many tattoos are translated into a composition of lions from the weapon of Denmark - the heart being a national symbol and a classic in tattoo tradition. The tattoo also stands for the blue blood and the imprint that can never erased.
